Each year, we manage over 5000 repatriations and evacuations, coordinating with our dedicated medical assistance partners including, Southern Cross Assist and Avcair – Aviation . Excellence, to ensure safe and comfortable patient transfers.
The Europ Assistance Australia and New Zealand team recently visited these partners at their Brisbane Airport hangar, touring the aeromedical facilities and learned more about how Air Ambulance repatriate our travellers back home when needed.

It’s more complex than what you might think, including:
- Choosing the right form of aircraft to repatriate an individual based on their medical circumstances,
- Organising visas and air space access for international medical transport; and
- Using specialised aeromedical stretchers and loading systems to minimise the risk of further injury to our patients, during transit and transfer operations.
Southern Cross Assist and AvCair are among EA’s global network of 4500+ medical providers and partners. By collaborating with medical providers from all corners of the globe, we can be ready for our travellers when things go wrong.
